Going To Malibu-Leave The Tevas Home

My latest letter comes from a reader named Francie.

I'm a kewl trendy granola-ish dresser and am heading to Malibu for the week (just turned 40 and am a size 2-4). What to bring? Don't want to look out of place at Nobu!

Thanks for asking.

You just turned the big 4-0,& you are a size 2-4 , I am flattered that you would ask my opinion. I passed those two speed bumps long ago.....anyway, enough about me.....Did you know there is a new store in Mt. Kisco ? Enter Purple Passage. This is not understated fashion. Call it conspicuous brilliance, for those who want to make a statement.

I stumbled along this store after stopping for iced coffee at Starbucks last week . Purple Passage is located on the promenade where Knoyzz used to be. The new owners are young and hip with a great eye for fashion. Francie, you immediately came to mind. I asked the new owner Jessica if she could help me with this task? Jessica eagerly came up with these ideas....

Linen is as its best when it is wrinkled…so fight the urge to have them pressed. I matched an embellished fitted tank top to balance out the width of the linen pants and add a bit of glamour.
Pants– Krisa
Tank – g’lish

This boyfriend tee and Bermuda short combo is great for day activities around Malibu. It’s perfect to throw a bathing suit under and head to the beach. I added a printed scarf to polish off this casual look for a more complete outfit.
Bermuda – Hudson jeans
Tee – alternative apparel

Maxi dresses have the advantage of being either casual or dressy depending on what the occasion calls for. Wear this dress with some gold flip flops for a lunch or afternoon date or throw on some wedges or heels for a nighttime event. Add jewelry accordingly…chunky wooden bangles or a sophisticated gold necklace as shown.
Dress – French Connection

With the boyfriend cropped jean, I paired a floral ruffle top to keep a more feminine look. The top is lightweight, perfect for the warmer Malibu weather.
Jeans – James Jeans
Top – Yumi Kim

Accesories make the outfit. Here are some jewelry pieces that can be worn with each outfit as well as oversized bags to throw all your traveling needs into. Also, pieces from these four outfits are of course interchangeable. And always remember that adding accessories

such as chunky necklaces, bracelets

or a fun scarf really brings an outfit to the next level.

Purple Passage is having their Grand Opening Saturday June 13th from noon-7pm

41 South Moger Avenue, Mt Kisco, NY

really? I prefer other mount kisco spots. I find the people who work there to be completely stupid, young and uninformed. Not to mention I got the same dress for about 40 bucks less not to far from there. It's taking advantage of less savvy shoppers and just completely overcharging. bah. Go back to where you came from.

I was skeptical after reading the last review, but it is not my style to rely on the words of others so I decided to check it out for myself on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I thought the store was beautiful, and the staff was great! (and not all young either...something I value as a 40 something my self.) We are all entitled to our opinions of course, but I suggest you check it out for yourself and form your own. I'm so glad I did!
