Bedford's Fountain Of Fab

Fall Colors In BedfordImage by sgeisco2001 via FlickrIs it better in Bedford?  I think so.  I  might be just a little prejudiced since I have lived here for 21 years.   Where did the time go?  Growing up in Bayside, New York, I had never even heard of Bedford. One night when I was then dating my husband, he took my to Nino’s Restaurant which is now Richard Gere’s Bedford Post Inn, and we were detoured down Clark Rd and then onto Guard Hill Road.  Both roads were dirt roads which seemed bizarre, but we were immediately struck by its beauty.

Besides Bedford’s natural beauty, Bedford seems to breed world renowned musicians, writers, scientists, philanthropists, and entertainers to go on to greatness.  Is it the schools?   Maybe it's the water.

"Homegrown: Bedford’s Top 50 Talents" is a feature in Bedford Magazine's March/ April 2011 issue (http://www.townvibe.com/Bedford/March-April-2011/Homegrown) that profiles some of Bedford's most impressive success stories. Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, who grew up in town and has returned to raise his family, sat on Bedford Magazine's selection committee. Top locally raised talents include Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Kate Zernike; orthopedic surgeon and medical director for the St. Louis Cardinals George Paletta and his brother, Stephen, a philanthropist and activist; Emmy Award winning actors Susan Dey and Stanley Tucci; Tony Award winning actress Marissa Jaret Winokur; movie stars Ali MacGraw, Rooney Mara, and Kate Mara; rocket scientist Joel Hurowitz; world-renowned violinist Anne Akiko Myers; former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich; top 40 songwriter Sam S*A*M Hollander; award-winning vascular surgeon Sharif Ellozy; ballet legend Peter Boal; and many more.

I have heard a rumor that   that Alex 'A-Rod' Rodriguez was interested in a Bedford estate on the same road as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.  Bedford, New York, may not be the perfect small town, but clearly many A-list celebrities think it comes awfully close. The town of Bedford -- which includes Katonah, Bedford Village and Bedford Hills -- is currently home to Martha Stewart, billionaire financier George Soros and Ralph Lauren, and of course, me..
